Candy-coated Pill is the third EP from American singer-songwriter Marian Renta released on March 25, 2022. The EP spawned the lead single, "Shot in the Dark", released on February 2, 2022. Candy-coated Pill was wholly written and produced by Renta and expands on the pop genre through the unique incorporation of indie rock, R&B, and darkwave elements. The lyrical themes vary from lovesickness and fear of commitment to finding God. Renta toils with these themes through storytelling and a reminiscent style of songwriting. Candy-coated Pill consists of five songs, all of which were written and produced by Renta herself, in various tempos and styles. The EP also introduces a wider and broader use of drumbeats and percussion rarely present in Renta's work. Renta's vocals are performed in a mezzo-soprano tessitura, and her vocals are performed through the use of melisma in the chest and head voice ranges.
