Marian Renta Makes a Sharp Turn Towards Her Faith in New Single and Video “Walk with Me”

A strong declaration of faith is being made by Renta in her groundbreaking new single and music video “Walk with Me” released today. The spiritually driven song marks a new beginning in the singer-songwriter's illustrious career as an Indie-Pop-R&B artist with a five-octave vocal range.

Another new year is upon us, and with it comes change, transformation, and rebirth. Renta rang in the new year in this very spirit, envisioning 2026 as her new beginning and year of transition. Reeling from the emotional tornado in which Renta was caught up in late 2024, she spent much of 2025 getting her musical affairs in order, dishing out two albums, and essentially clearing a path for a fresh start and a new venture:

"Last year was me basically tying up loose ends, rushing to put out a backlog of projects, and clearing my calendar because I knew I wanted to transition to making faith-based music, but I needed to figure out how. Would I be a Christ-Pop artist? A Christ-Jazz artist? I spent a lot of 2025 reflecting on who I am or am not as an artist. I grew up Baptist in Virginia. I grew up loving Gospel music from Kirk Franklin, Yolanda Adams, and Mary Mary. My friends loved Gospel. That’s who I am. I also love soul music of the 60s and 70s like The Dells, Gladys Knight, and Stevie Wonder, having spent most my childhood reaching for and finding comfort and joy in those records. That’s me. I was basically finding my musical identity all over again. ‘Walk with me’ was a slow and soft introduction of that identity to the world."

“Walk with Me” begins with a soft spoken intro reciting the biblical verse Lamentations 3:56-57, a verse Renta often leaned on for comfort in her struggles. Then a soft glide of the piano and her silky voice introduces the song’s opening verse. As the song progresses, a gallant choir joins in the chorus section, and the song builds momentum towards its fiery climax wherein Renta can be heard belting an astounding B♭6 whistle note as the choir roars with unrestrained power. Renta holds a deep connection to the song:

“I wrote this song from a place of desperation, darkness, and yearning. I reflected so vividly on those moments when I was in the enemy’s grip. I thought back to the thoughts I had and the emptiness I felt when I was turning from my old life and beginning a new one in Christ. Jesus and I weren’t strangers by any means, but we had to get reacquainted. I remember feeling like I don’t want to ask too much of Him, just help me sleep through the night and I’ll be okay. I felt so grateful for the salvation He brings, and I was operating from a baby-Christian place, thinking that too many requests or larger ones annoy God. But of course I’d learn that’s not true.”

Amid the blistering cold of January, we find warmth, comfort, and peace in the sanctity of our spirituality. It was in the early morning hours of a freezing winter’s sunrise that Renta found herself standing in the middle of a barren old loft, windows slowly turning from dark blue to amber. This was the music video shoot for “Walk with Me”, directed by Renta, shot in just over two hours, beginning around 7AM. Simple. Natural. Traditional. Renta's vision for the song’s video was to be engulfed in the golden bright sunlight as she performed the song’s heartfelt vocals in a rehearsal style:

“There were so many thoughts swirling in my head when making this video. Am I really doing this? I’m doing Gospel music now. Is this real? There was a part of me that felt bold and daring, and I’d question my qualification. But why? I love my Lord. I love Jesus. God is the center of my life now. He’s not a side-note like before. God gave me my gifts in singing and writing. I’ve been criticized for years about my vocal embellishments when I did Adult-Contemporary Pop stuff. Now I can go ham and praise my Lord at the same time. Gospel is where I always belonged, but my priorities were off, specifically in terms of my career’s direction.”

As Renta embarks on her new musical journey, we can anticipate more Gospel anthems of hope, faith, repentance, and love, and we should be ready to receive the message. Renta didn’t play around when it came to Pop ballads, and it’s safe to presume she will not be playing around with the Lord either.
