She held tightly to this song for almost a year, waiting for the right time and circumstances in which to release the explosive track. After weeks of teasing fans and listeners on social media with a distorted sample of the song and cryptic footage, Marian Renta releases "Body" today along with its accompanying music video.
Written and produced by Renta last year, "Body" is a transformative work that strips away the safe, adult-contemporary schmaltz, and introduces a grimier, more roots-based sound reminiscent of Nelly Furtado and Eminem. After the release of her previous single "Lighthouse", Renta took up shelter in the recording studio and embarked on a songwriting blitz and days-long recording sessions. in the span of eight months, all of the tracks that will comprise the album, including "Body", were finished and mastered. An announcement for the album is planned for this Fall.
"Body" oozes with clever songwriting and a spit style cadence that marries her voice to the beat and brings the track closer to an R&B Hip Hop designation. The song's brash lyrics take storytelling to new heights as they paint the picture of her waking up next to a dead body and scrambling to find a location to move the body to. The song goes on to expose an ailing mental health state as the culprit of her depravity, implying a Norman Bates flavor of madness complicated by blackouts that hinder her memory.
The song's music video was shot last month and directed by Renta and her frequent collaborator and video director Vlad Tipicidi. The music video follows the storyline of "Body" very closely, and resembles a short film that seeks to invite viewers into the deranged and twisted world of a homicidal girl with a forgetfulness that shields her.
The video is shot in a gritty, documentary style that adds a realism to the experience of waking up beside a guy with a knife sticking out of his head. Despite its dark and macabre nature, the video intrigues the viewer and tells a story that is unique and rarely explored in a Pop music setting.
"Body" can be downloaded and streamed everywhere, including Spotify and Apple Music
The "Body" music video and lyric video are available on Youtube and other video platforms such as Apple Music and TIDAL
